Please be advised that we take no liability if you wish to transport the cake yourself after it has been delivered to you by us. We also cannot accept any liability for damage sustained after the cake is collected from your designated collection point if collection is chosen instead of delivery.

What we will do (Preparation):

  1. Chill the Cake:
    • Refrigerate or freeze the cake to make it firmer and less prone to damage. This is especially important for soft or delicate cakes.
  2. Secure the Layers:
    • Use dowels or straws for multi-tiered cakes to provide extra support. Insert them through the layers to prevent shifting during transport.
  3. Boxing the Cake:
    • Choose a sturdy cake box that is slightly larger than the cake itself to allow for some movement without touching the sides. Ensure the box is clean and dry.
    • Place the cake on a cake board that fits snugly inside the box. The board should be strong enough to support the cake without bending.
  4. Packaging:
    • Use non-slip padding (e.g., a non-slip mat or bubble wrap) at the bottom of the box to prevent the cake from sliding.
    • Secure the cake box with tape, if necessary, but ensure it’s easy to open without jostling the cake.

During Transport

  1. Transport Vehicle:
    • Choose a vehicle with a flat surface area for the cake. The trunk or the floor of the car (not the seats) is usually the best option.
    • Ensure the vehicle is clean and free from any objects that might roll or slide into the cake.
  2. Temperature Control:
    • Keep the vehicle cool, especially in warm weather, to prevent melting or softening of the cake. Use air conditioning if necessary.
  3. Driving Tips:
    • Drive slowly and carefully, avoiding sudden stops and sharp turns. Consider taking a route with the least amount of traffic and the smoothest roads.
    • Use a non-slip mat under the cake box to prevent it from sliding during transit.

Additional Tips

  1. Handling:
    • Carry the cake with both hands, supporting the bottom of the cake board. If the cake is large or heavy, get help to lift and carry it.
  2. Repair Kit:
    • Bring along a cake repair kit with extra frosting, tools (spatula, piping bags, tips), and decorations to fix any minor damages upon arrival.
  3. Timing:
    • Allow plenty of time for transport. Rushing can increase the risk of accidents.
  4. Destination:
    • Upon arrival, place the cake in a cool, stable location. If it needs to be displayed outdoors, ensure it’s in a shaded area away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

By following these guidelines, we can ensure that your cake arrives in perfect condition, ready to impress your guests or clients.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your wedding cake remains in perfect condition, from the moment it’s baked until it’s served to the guests.

Storage

  1. Immediate Post-Baking Storage:
    • Cooling: Allow the cake to cool completely before applying frosting or decorations.
    • Covering: Wrap the cake layers in plastic wrap to keep them moist if you’re not decorating immediately.
  2. Pre-Event Storage:
    • Refrigeration: Store the cake in the refrigerator to keep it firm, especially if it contains perishable fillings like cream or fresh fruit.
    • Humidity Control: If using fondant, be cautious with refrigeration as humidity can cause it to sweat. Use a fridge with low humidity or keep the cake in a cake box to reduce exposure to direct air.
  3. At the Venue:
    • Cool Location: Keep the cake in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
    • Final Assembly: Assemble the cake tiers at the venue, if possible, to minimize transport risks.
    • Protection: Use a cake cover or box until it’s time to display to protect from dust and damage.
  4. Serving:
    • Timing: Take the cake out of the refrigerator about an hour before serving to bring it to room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
    • Cutting: Use a long, sharp knife for cutting and keep a cloth handy to wipe the knife between slices.

Choosing between a one-tier and a two-tier wedding cake depends on several factors, including the number of guests, budget, and desired aesthetic. Here’s a detailed comparison to help you make the decision:

One-Tier Wedding Cake

Advantages:

  1. Simplicity:

    • A single-tier cake offers a clean, elegant look. It’s perfect for minimalist themes or small, intimate weddings.
  2. Cost:

    • Generally less expensive than multi-tiered cakes due to less labor and fewer materials.
  3. Ease of Handling:

    • Easier to transport, set up, and serve, reducing the risk of damage during these processes.
  4. Customization:

    • Can be beautifully decorated to suit your theme, with intricate designs, fresh flowers, or other embellishments.

Considerations:

  1. Size:

    • Suitable for smaller weddings or if you plan to serve other desserts. A typical one-tier cake serves around 20-30 guests.
  2. Impact:

    • May have less visual impact compared to multi-tiered cakes, especially in larger venues.

Two-Tier Wedding Cake

Advantages:

  1. Aesthetic Appeal:

    • Two tiers create a more striking centerpiece, offering a traditional and elegant look.
  2. Serving Size:

    • Can serve more guests, typically accommodating around 40-60 people, depending on the tier sizes.
  3. Design Opportunities:

    • More surface area for decoration, allowing for more elaborate designs and the ability to combine different flavors or fillings in each tier.
  4. Versatility:

    • Can be adapted to fit both small and medium-sized weddings by adjusting the tier sizes.

Considerations:

  1. Cost:

    • More expensive due to additional labor and materials involved in creating and decorating two tiers.
  2. Handling:

    • More challenging to transport and set up. Requires careful support and doweling to prevent collapsing or shifting.
  3. Complexity:

    • May require more time and effort from the baker, leading to a longer lead time for preparation.

Decision Factors

  1. Guest Count:

    • If you have a small guest list (under 30), a one-tier cake may suffice. For larger gatherings, a two-tier cake ensures there’s enough for everyone.
  2. Budget:

    • One-tier cakes are generally more budget-friendly. However, if you want a two-tier cake, discuss with your baker about size adjustments to keep costs manageable.
  3. Aesthetic Preferences:

    • Consider the overall look and feel of your wedding. A one-tier cake offers simplicity, while a two-tier cake adds grandeur.
  4. Venue and Display:

    • Assess the size of your venue and the table where the cake will be displayed. A larger venue might benefit from the visual impact of a two-tier cake.
  5. Other Desserts:

    • If you’re offering a dessert table or other sweets, a one-tier cake might be sufficient to complement the assortment.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the choice between a one-tier and a two-tier wedding cake should reflect your personal style, wedding theme, and practical considerations. Discuss your options with your baker, who can provide further guidance based on your specific needs and preferences.
